I did try the Razer Surround free software on my Realtek, but it just decreased the volume and "muffy/echo-ing" everything wasn't very good on my Realtek. Also, that surround sound seems interesting. I always game with headphones and I think I would benefit from a cheap soundcard like the Xonar DGX. The biggest issue however with the Realtek is the sound level that is quite low. The audio quality of the ALC892 is OK for games, but nothing compared to the quality of my Denon. And with games being more and more demanding in performances, this might happen more often with newer games in the near future. I probably shouldn't change my soundcard because of Star Citizen, but I can't help thinking that my Denon is impacting games much more than I anticipated. Using the onboard audio card, I get about 85% average CPU in Vanduul Swarm. I decided to try my onboard soundcard (Realtek ALC892) instead to see the impact on the CPU.

That is causing serious impacts on my USB soundcard as the sound is crackling most of the time. In Vanduul Swarm, however, the CPU hits 95-100% most of the time because of the AIs. In free flight, my CPU is hanging around 50%. I decided to give a go to Star Citizen using the promo codes I have found here. I knew that since the beginning, and it hasn't impacted my CPU in games.until last week-end.

However, because it is USB, it is taking more CPU % than onboard or PCI/e. Obviously, the Denon controller has a very good sound quality for music and in games. While it was designed for music/djing, I use it as my primary soundcard along with M40x headphones from Audio-Technica (35 ohms). For the past 5 years I've been using a Denon DN-MC6000 USB Controller as my primary soundcard. I've been out of the loop of soundcards for quite a while.
